Teapot fancy

Off to check out Barbara Barry's newest Wedgwood collection at Bed Bath and Beyond (who can believe it??) in Portchester. I want to see the silver-plated teapot in person ($249.990).

Converse at Target

Browsed the new Converse One Star collection at the White Plains Target and ended up buying a pair of chinos, shorts, and jeans. Am still looking for the white wrap dress and cargo pants.

240 Rosedale, How I Miss You

Walked the dog by the empty lot, once the site of a wonderfully modern 1949 house by Edward Durell Stone (also responsible for the original Museum of Modern Art and Kennedy Center for Performing Arts) with a fantastic second floor addition by local architect John Mclean. The house was razed not too long ago and a plan for 5 new houses is in the works, which may affect the neighboring house, a gorgeous old structure with an acre pond that was used in the film Unfaithful. Sigh.

Giggle Adventure

D.'s mother and I were in the Greenwich Giggle (www.giggle.com) today looking to supplement the Svan bouncer with a highchair (it's getting to be that time when Z. aka Captain America starts on solids). We love our bouncer ($120) so it was no surprise that we went with the Svan chair ($250).

X2O, finally

For my brother-in-law's birthday, D. and I got to try out X20 (xaviers.com) in Yonkers and enjoyed a great meal. However, most memorable was one of the bottle of wines we ordered: La Rioja Alta, Gran Reserve "904", 1995. My b-in-law found it at Zachy's (zachys.com) in Scarsdale at $95 and worth it.

Poetry Westchester

I love the new initiative between the Westchester library system and Manhattan's Poetry House. This Spring, six libraries will host readings and writing workshops for teens and adults, and the great, great poetess Hettie Jones, "poet in residence" at the Mount Pleasant library, will host Beat Poets: A Talk on April 6, 2pm.
(full schedule at poetshouse.org).

Let's pay a little homage to Hettie:

Hard Drive

Saturday the stuffed bears were up again
over the Major Deegan
dancing in plastic along the bridge rail
under a sky half misty, half blue
and there were white clouds
blowing in from the west

which would have ben enough
for one used to pleasure
in small doses

But then later, at sunset
driving north along the Saw Mill
in a high wind, with clouds big and drifting
above the road like animals
proud of their pink underbellies,
in a moment of intense light
I saw an Edward Hopper house
at once so exquisitely light and dark
that I cried, all the way up Route 22
those uncontrollable tears
"As though the body were crying"

and so young women
here's the dilemma

itself a solution:

I have always been at the same time
woman enough to be moved to tears
and man enough
to drive my car in any direction

Last month D. and I sampled some great finds!  Do not miss:
